The "Angel" is a crucial figure in the story of Bravely Default, whose mythical presence ultimately shapes the historical events following her brief appearance in Luxendarc's past.

She is very heavily implied to be a version of Agnès Oblige from one of the many Luxendarcs.

Story

In an unspecified Luxendarc world, Agnès is tricked by Airy into unleashing the Crystals, creating the Holy Pillar. As Airy no longer had an use for her or her friends, she fatally wounded them all. The severely hurt Agnès was engulfed by light and fell across both time and space, descending upon another Luxendarc, over the Norende Heights between years 400 and 500 of the Orthodoxy.

There, she was sighted by Lester DeRosso and Sage Yulyana, who'd been engaged in a fierce battle. They were taken in by the visage of what appeared to be a graceful angel descending in a light from the heavens. Dropping the fighting, they rushed to her aid.

Agnès, filled with grief and regret, imparted her experience unto the duo. In her weak state, she spent days slipping in and out of consciousness, offering them morsels of information about her time and what had happened to her. She spoke of future events such as the two risings of the Eternian highlands, the Great Plague and the opening of the Great Chasm, and of how she was tricked by an evil entity who had acted as a friend. As she was aware of their immortality, she asked a favor: if her future version appeared with the Evil One by her side, they should kill her, and prevent the Harrowing.

Although she succumbed to her wounds, her spirit and its echoes continued to be a guide in the future, nominating the version of herself and her companions starting out in World 5 as Warriors of Light and casting her protection over them.

The Angel's existence and prophecy was kept a secret for nearly two thousand years, with DeRosso and Yulyana mostly awaiting for the prophesized events to occur. Crucially, by EC 16, only a handful of people came to know of the extent of her warnings, including the two immortals, Braev Lee and Alternis Dim. Yulyana was unable to carry out the Angel's request of killing Agnès when she appeared before him with Airy in tow, not having the heart to do so.

The warriors of light were only made aware of her when confronting DeRosso at the top of his castle or when visiting Yulyana in World 4.
